Gash veins were opened up at about 90° to the strike faults, probably in areas prestressed by the folding. These veins flattened and tightened as they extended away from the initial break. The openings so produced provided channels for the passage of hydrothermal fluids containing quartz, potash, iron sulphide, tourmaline, gold and other minerals.
An oxidation zone and a transition zone, from near total oxidation to only sulphides, have been defined. Veins can be only sulphides or sulphides with white quartz. Pyrite plus arsenopyrite (or arsenical pyrite) and quartzpyrite veins are common, within the overall NE trending zone of mineralization.
Quartz Veins. Gold often forms with quartz, so quartz veining can be a very positive sign. Quartz is very resistant to weathering, so it may hang around on the surface long after any nuggets have sunk below the soil. If you find a visible quartz vein outcrop, that can be a good sign.

Kfeldspar–quartz veintype Au deposits, represented by the Hadamengou superlarge Au deposit, are widely developed in the Archean highgrade metamorphic terrane in the western segment of the northern margin of the North China Craton. However, the formation processes of these Au deposits have long been debated, and their genetic relationship with magmatic activity remains unclear.
Quartz veins can have a variety of differing structures depending on the environment of formation and the host rock. The most common type of quartz vein is the simple filled vein, which could have a thickness ranging from a small fraction of an inch up to monster veins of quartz with a thickness of 20 to 30 feet and sometimes even more.
Comment (Deposit): The Angels Mine produced over million from quartz veins, zones of parallel quartz stringers, and bodies of mineralized amphibolirte schist. The two principal veins, the "East" vein and the "West" or "Mother Lode" vein, averaged 20 feet wide. The ore contained disseminated free gold and auriferous pyrite.

Native gold is reported in quartz lenses and veins with heavy iron oxidation. Eldred Wilson of the Arizona Bureau of Mines, reported the following in a 1933 Bureau of Mines report: The Yellow Breast Mine is about 3/4 mile northeast of the Bill Taft workings.
Gold grade is expected to rise near the end of the mine life as a highgrade vein is mined near the present tertiary crusher. Most Rochester ore is disseminated in stockworks and siliceous breccia. Highgrade, faultcontrolled veins provide smaller quantity but richer ore. Veins are replacement, tight (few vugs), closely spaced and often laminar.
